Friends host meeting at bird sanctuary
Friends of the Bird Sanctuary will hold its annual meeting, potluck and silent auction from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Clubhouse of the Douglas County Wildlife Area's Bird Sanctuary.
The meeting is open to members and friends interested in supporting the mission of conservation and environmental education for the barrens of the Bird Sanctuary. In addition to a potluck meal and election of board members, two educational presentations will be offered.
Local historian Brian Finstad will present "The History of a Barrens Fire Tower," the story of the Gordon Fire Tower, recently decommissioned and in the process of being conserved for its historic, cultural and natural history values.
SNAPSHOTWisconsin, a Citizen Science project of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, will present its findings of "trail camera wildlife" throughout the habitats of Wisconsin.
The Clubhouse of the Douglas County Wildlife Area is located west of U.S. Highway 53, off of County Highway M, on Bird Road between Solon Springs and Gordon.
