World of percussion on display
The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department holds its steel drums concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Thorpe Langley Auditorium in Old Main, 1710 Weeks Ave.
"The steel drum ensemble will expand what it does to feature other percussion music from around the world," said Dr. Brett Jones, professor of percussion and world music at UWS. "This expansion will create quite a wonderful variety of dance music."
The concert features Caribbean music from Trinidad played on steel drums and hand drumming from Africa and Latin America. The performance will conclude with the debut of a new set of instruments that were donated to UWS. The Korean samul nori drums and gongs will be played for the first time in conjunction with this ensemble.
Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and free for students. For information, call (715) 394-8115 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
