Tiger freshmen get into win column
After thunderstorms postponed two of its first three contests, the Northwestern High School freshman football team defeated Chetek-Weyerhaeuser 38-8 on Thursday, Sept. 6, in Chetek.
The Tigers’ defense was swarming all night as they tackled Chetek players for loss on their first five plays. In total, the Tigers racked up 12 tackles for loss and three sacks, including when linebacker Logan Pulju landed on a Chetek player in the end zone for a safety in the first quarter.
Austin Schilies led the Tigers offensively finishing with 201 yards of total offense, including 186 rushing. Schilies also scored twice and ran for a two-point conversion.
Fullback Greg Ohman also found pay dirt twice as he ran for 57 yards and quarterback Kole Paulsen was 4-for-7 passing for 44 yards and ran for 41 yards and a touchdown.
Paulsen led the way for the Tigers defensively with seven tackles, including four tackles for loss and a sack. Cornerback Camron Benesch had six tackles and a pass defense and safety Clayton Remington intercepted a pass in the second quarter.
The Tigers outgained the Bulldogs in yards 381-65 as they improved to 1-1 after a 14-12 loss to Cumberland a week prior.
