Spartans' season ends with loss at Stevens Point
The season came to an end for the Superior High School softball team with a 6-1 loss to Stevens Point in a WIAA Division 1 sectional semifinal game Tuesday at Woyak Park in Plover.
The Spartans’ lone run came on Chesie McLaughlin’s two-out home run in the fourth inning.
The Panthers scored unearned runs in the first and second innings before opening things up with four runs in the sixth inning.
Maddie Fink led off the sixth with a home run, Kayla Lass and Jenna Ellers doubled and Ally Miklesh singled to help account for the other three.
Superior finished with five hits. Besides McLaughlin’s homer, Maddy Graham, Erin Thompson, Alee Milinkovich-Gray and Madison Sislo singled.
Stevens Point had seven hits. Fink also added a single, along with Halle Pavelski and Sammy Saloun.
Mady Stariha suffered the loss, allowing seven hits with four strikeouts and four walks.
Andrea Cherney and Fink pitched for Point, finishing with six strikeouts and two walks.
