PREVIEW: Eagle girls returns 4 starters

Adam Bielmeier is the new girls basketball coach at Solon Springs High School, whose team lost just one player after finishing 8-14 last season. The Eagles also finished sixth in the Indianhead Conference at 6-10.

While having to replace Heather Holdness, the Eagles' roster includes seniors Morgan Anderson, Nikki Orozco and Lily Nordskog and junior Kylli Rajala.

Anderson averaged 20.4 points a game on her way to being named first-team all-conference. Rajala (14.9 ppg) was honorable mention all-conference with 14.9 ppg and Orozco averaged 7.7 ppg.

Also expected to chip in are senior Allison Androsky, who is injured, and sophomore Muree Ahlberg.

"We have strong scorers, return experienced players and have good leadership with the upperclassmen," Bielmeier said. "But we will need to get all players to contribute in the scoring column. We cannot rely solely on top scorers. We will also have a few younger kids playing significant time with little experience."

Despite getting off to a 1-2 start, Bielmeier has high expectations.

"This could be a team that has the potential to turn some heads," Bielmeier said. "We return almost all of our scoring from last year and we have some very smart basketball players with strong work ethics. The girls have also believed in my coaching philosophy and now it is just a matter of us putting together a complete basketball game.

"They are a fun group to coach and I'm looking forward to the season."

As for the Indianhead Conference, Bielmeier expects his Eagles to be competing for a conference title with Hurley and Ironwood.

"These particular teams return the most players," Bielmeier said. "I think that there is going to be a lot of teams that will be battling for these top spots this year, though, but we have a really good chance as we return two of the top scorers in the conference."
